UFW: New Trump Muslim- and refugee-ban still‘a grievous affront’ to basic American values

United Farm Workers President Arturo S. Rodriguez issued the following statement from the union’s Keene, Calif. headquarters after Donald Trump signed his latest executive order banning travel to the United States by people from six mostly Muslim countries.

Most authorities on national security agree Donald Trump’s newly re-issued travel ban on entry into the United States by citizens and refugees from six mostly-Muslim countries does nothing to safeguard Americans from the threat of terrorism. In fact, it aggravates the threat because by alienating the very people at home and abroad whose cooperation and support we most need.

The Muslim ban is also a grievous affront to the fundamental values that make America an exceptional nation. The revised Trump executive order is nothing more than a stark appeal to irrational ignorance, prejudice and fear mongering.

The United Farm Workers joins all Americans of good will in once again opposing it.
