UFW’s Arturo S. Rodriguez in Shafter & Delano to begin four-day door-to-door campaign to voters

United Farm Workers President Arturo S. Rodriguez walks precincts in Shafter and Delano on Saturday, Nov. 5, encouraging voters to cast ballots on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8. He kicks off a four-day door-to-door campaign that will go from Saturday through closing of the polls on Tuesday.

Rodriguez will meet at 9:30 a.m. with staff and volunteers getting out the vote for the Civic Empowerment Coalition, a sister organization of the UFW and UFW Foundation on whose board he serves. The kick-off meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. at the UFW Foundation office in Bakersfield. Immediately after that session, Rodriguez and volunteers will travel to Shafter to walk precincts. At 1 p.m., Rodriguez is set to arrive at the farm workers’ historic “Forty Acres” complex outside Delano to meet with a second group of coalition staff and volunteers.

The Civic Empowerment Coalition, a non-profit 501 (C)(4) community organization, undertook non-partisan voter registration efforts in rural parts of Kern and Tulare counties between August and Oct. 24. This project which has been in partnership with NextGen Climate Action has been providing voters with vital information prior to Election Day to demonstrate community members are committed to stopping hate with their votes. The group has a core team of organizers trained in non-partisan voter registration as well as the electoral process and community outreach.

WHAT:          Rodriguez meeting with coalition staff and volunteers and walking precincts in Shafter and Delano to push voter turnout on Election Day.

WHEN:           9:30 a.m. meeting with volunteers on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Bakersfield, followed by precinct walking in Shafter; 1 p.m. meeting with other volunteers at the “Forty Acres” outside Delano followed by walking in Delano.

WHERE:         UFW Foundation office, 220 – 18th St., Bakersfield, CA 93301, at 9:30 a.m. From there, Rodriguez travels to Shafter and then arrives at 1 p.m. at the Forty Acres, 30168 Garces Hwy. (corner of Mettler Ave.), Delano, CA 93215.
