Sacramento, Calif.—More than 250 farm workers laboring in a diverse range of crops from every major agricultural region in the state are sacrificing a day’s wages to lobby at the state Capitol for AB 1066, which would end their 78-year exclusion from overtime pay after eight hours a day. Workers will gather at 9 a.m. on the state Capitol’s south steps to begin a day of visits urging assemblymembers to support AB 1066, by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) when the measure is taken up Thursday on the Assembly floor.

Giving up a day’s pay will be Central Valley tomato, citrus, tree fruit, table grape and nut workers; Central Coast strawberry, vegetable, mushroom and wine grape workers; and Napa and Sonoma counties wine grape workers.

Joining the workers at 9 a.m. will be United Farm Workers President Arturo S. Rodriguez, state Senate leader Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) , and Assemblymembers Gonzalez, Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno), Rob Bonta (D-Oakland), David Chiu (D-San Francisco), Mike Gipson (D-Gipson), Patty Lopez (D-San Fernando) and Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles).
